i can't believe this song never blew up! it's one of my favourite kpop songs of all time, it has everything

한 왕국의 서열 4위쯤 되는 귀족가 막내딸 여주, 그 가문의 호위 대장 남주(화자). 여주는 막내치고 철들고 똑똑했는데 (암투가 잦았기 때문)그걸 안타깝게 여긴 아버지가 본인의 호위대장을 보내고 여주가 나이에 맞는 많은 경험을 했으면 함. 덕분에 여주는 사교 이외에 본인이 관심갖는 일에 대해(ex 복지) 여러 활동을 함. 근데 자꾸 눈이 마주치는 일이 생김. 남주가 고민할 때, 여주가 한숨 쉬어서 쳐다보면 눈이 맞음. 같이 다닐 때 이상하게 풀리지 않던 신발끈이 자꾸만 풀림. 그럴때마다 여주는 항상 눈을 마주치고 싱긋 웃어줌(민망할까봐 배려). 이 일이 자꾸 반복되니 남주는 이상함을 느낌. 이 두근거림이 사랑일까 충성일까. 근데 이 미소가 반복되니 익숙해 진것이라 생각하고 내가 감히 공주를 넘봤다고 마음 떼려하지만 안됨. 그러다 2, 3위 가문이 서로 손을 잡고 1위 가문을 칠 계획을 세우는데 4위 가문을 미끼로 쓰려함. 똑똑했던 공주는 2위 가문이 원하는 정보와 땅을 가지고 혼약을 맺어 가문의 위기를 벗어나려함. 결혼을 앞 둔 어느 날, 문밖에서 공주의 울음소리를 듣는 순간 기사는 알아차림. 나는 공주를 사랑한 것 뿐만 아니라 내 목숨을 바쳐서 지키고 싶었다는 사실을. 기사는 반역죄를 꾸며 3위 가문을 선수로 치고 전장에서 죽음. 눈 뜬 순간 눈앞에 공주가 있음. 산소호흡기를 달고. 알고보니 지나가던 호인이 본인을 위해 목숨걸고 구해준 것. 그때 완전히 각성함. 넌 날 사랑하게 될거야. 왜냐면 내가 너의 전부가 될거니까.

i'm pretty sure i checked this out when it came out, this was like...their first comeback after Road to Kingdom...i think, and i checked out most of Road to Kingdom groups first comeback since RTK endeared me to most of the groups n i wanted to see which groups' music i would vibe with the most post-RTK, and i don't think i even finished this. it's too weird/flamboyant/out there with all the mashups of random elements for my simplistic taste lol though i do enjoy some reggae sound haa, but this song n mv i guess scared me away so yeah. now after like almost 4 years, i'm back here, now able to even listen to it on repeat?(for now at least) i mean....i am in a weird state of inexplainable curiosity-meets-obsession with this group's music after their most recent comeback. when i read reviews of this song out of curiosity, i'm surprised this was regarded so low by some fans compared to all their prior singles, and even deemed as 'mainstream' or 'easy listening'. maybe i'm the odd one for not finding this 'easy to listen to' or public friendly at all, so i never really lumped it in the same category as other popular easy listening public friendly so called tracks of similar nature in kpop, though trying to compare it with the songs they mentioned, i can kinda see where they came from...but this song just has a strong identity/flavour of its own especially in the instrumentations n the group trademark chant-eyness that even with similar buildup/elements, i couldn't say it reminds me of those other song(s). the random music video i guess helps make it onbrand to this group's style though i don't think i understood anything or wanted to understand...everytime i try to pay attention to their music videos, there's always someone dying or sth tragic happening no matter how upbeat/'happy' the song sounds lol. might have to do with their storyline/lore/worldview or whatnot but i couldn't be bothered since it's the thing i hated in 3rd gen kpop onwards, i do love plots and storyline in mvs but for a mega world building of its own...yeah not for me. so i'll just focus on the song. despite the fact that i still don't find this song my style, it has become a lot more listenable n it has some interesting elements i could ponder over. like...what the song is even about for real...but it felt like the way they sing some parts(you probly know which parts) were like resembling how Thai language sounds(maybe intentionally) now i'm not Thai so it's not my place to make any valid commentaries abt the language, it just sound to have some semblance/reference in intonation or whatever, from a neighbouring country citizen's perspective lol. afterall, Thai language when spoken, is a melodious language, so yeah....maybe that's part of the idea. idk....i don't think i can ever fully understand this group's music/concept/vision or what goes behind the creations or creative decisions since there seems to be too many possible layers to peel and this group's music as a whole often makes me feel like it's made for weird-intellectuals. it is interesting to be able to think and talk about it though, since i'm more used to straightforward/simplistic songs/groups that never really need me to think or analyze much though some meaning/depth is always more than welcomed. anyway, abt how parts in the song sung to semble how Thai language/or specific words sound, i could be wrong and just influenced by the title. lol. but now whenever i listen to this i kinda miss Bangkok and the good food i had in Sukhumvit soi 22 >< (though i'm pretty sure the song is referring to different soi(s) that are more known for party/nightlife establishments that might even inspired some looks in the mv...yes this song even made me read on Sukhumvit area n what it's known for since i only went to a restaurant there n didn't explore much though i could take a guess). haha. ok that's enough. oddly enough, despite how initially i didn't even finish listening to this song let alone to check other tracks, this album has also become one of the first(of the now quite a handful) ONF albums i decided to buy recently since i love one(or 2....or 3 by now) of the Bsides though at that time i didn't think i'd bother listen to this song again, that was just like a month ago or so lol. guess i'll see which song worms its way into my brain to make me listen to it on repeat and write an essay next.
